A recent survey of marketing professionals suggests that email marketing and social media marketing are the two most popular and effective digital marketing opportunities, but it's important to remember that all of these tactics are much more effective when used as part of an integrated campaign.
Instead of looking at each tactic separately, we need to think about how we can create campaigns that run across both email and social media and feed back into each other. For instance, social media can be used to build up a targeted email list, whilst email can be used to convert fans and followers into paying customers.
In a new infographic from Constant Contact 13 digital marketing experts have shared their top tips for how businesses can do this. It does a great job of explaining the benefits of running integrated campaigns and gives a few very practical tips on how to make best of these channels. The first tip from Tamsin Fox-Davies sets the tone:
Social media and email marketing are like cheese and apples. People don't think they go together - but actually - they're perfect partners.
Social media helps extend the reach of your email campaigns & can build your email mailing list for you. In addition, good email campaigns will deepen the relationship that you have with social media contacts, and turn those followers into buyers.
It won't happen by magic, you have to work at it and think of your email-social marketing engine as one thing: creating campaigns that run across both channels and feed back into each other. It does work though, and there are tools (like Constant Contact) that you can use to make it easier.
PS - do try an apple and a wedge of cheese together. It's a taste sensation!
