Yesterday I wrote about SAP's KPI wiki. It did not have an RSS feed for updates. Why would I care? The wiki uses Kaplan and Norton's classic measurement sections, ie:
- Financial
- Customer
- Process
- HR & Innovation
I'd like to receive an RSS feed for one or more of these measures rather than having to revisit the site periodically to check on updates. RSS feeds provide me with automatic notification when something changes. I pinged the SAP BPX folk I know who are on the project last night with that request. This morning, I received a response. Done.
The next step is to develop feeds for each measure section so that I only receive updates on the things upon which I wish to focus. Knowing the team involved, it wouldn't surprise me to find that request has been fulfilled by lunchtime.
It's important to bear in mind that:
• I'm not an SAP customer.
• Anyone who knows me also knows I'm an SAP critic.
Do you think they're doing this to make me happy? No - they're doing it because it helps the community. It is an example of what SAP means when it talks about co-innovation.
Would your software supplier do the same? More to the point, could it do the same?
