Colleges across the country are letting loose thousands of fresh faced 20-something year olds into the job market pasture as we speak. Scary right? As a business, it's pretty exciting to think that so many young hopefuls will want to be a part of your team, especially if you're a Social Media Marketing firm. Naturally you can't take on every bright minded graduate that bounces through the door, clutching a resume, stashing his or her brand new Samsung Galaxy (clearly a graduation gift) and smiling stupidly from ear to ear. So how do you make all of these up and coming social media influencers' part of your potential hire pool and keep tabs on them, whether or not you can onboard them as part of your team? (This could be tricky). If you saved each resume you could start a lumberyard with the stacks of paper, and folks in HR would hate you. Simply ignoring less than savory resumes would be very" unsocial" of you, and the last thing you need is someone saying your social media marketing firm is a bunch of jerks.
I have a solution! Are you surprised?
Though I'm sure you've got a good head on your shoulders you've already stalked out these kids on LinkedIn, maybe Facebook, and probably not Twitter- But you really should cover all bases. Use your official Twitter, to follow these young bloods, and ask them to become a fan of your Facebook page in reply emails, after interviews, or the submission page on your site for hiring. (If I need to remind you about connecting on LinkedIn, I rescind the "good head on your shoulders" thing).
Stay as close to these whippersnappers as possible: if they don't work for your firm, or in the social media world at all after the first round of summer hiring ends, they may end up in an office that will soon enough need your social media services. What's a better lead for new business than already having contact with someone on the inside-who JUST HAPPENS to already think your firm is the bees-knees. #winning. Your connection with them will be a testament to your social connectivity, as well as proving you stand your ground in the roots of social media- who wouldn't want to do business with someone as awesome as you? You now look like a superstar, you can thank me(Straight cash, or Shoes) later.
