Snapchat vs Instagram: Who's Growing Faster [Infographic]
Here's an interesting question - which social app is growing faster, Snapchat or Instagram?
For the last few years, Instagram's been the leader, going from 300 million users in December 2014, to 400 million just nine months later, then hitting 500 million actives just last month. The velocity of that growth is significant - in total, Instagram has added 200 million news users in 18 months, equivalent to a 67% increase in their total user base.
Snapchat, meanwhile, has also seen big growth. Just recently, reports indicated that Snapchat is now at 150 million daily active users, up from 74 million DAU in December 2014. And while daily and monthly active users are not always directly comparable, as a measure of scale (and because Snapchat hasn't released any official monthly active numbers), Snapchat's growth over the same time period (the last 18 months) would equate to just over 100% audience expansion.
Now, even then, that scale's not definitive - Snapchat's newer, so their growth potential is likely higher.
So given this, how do you make an accurate comparison between the two?
To help, the team at data analytics provider Jumpshot have put together the below infographic which looks at some of the growth stats for each of the visual-based platforms to provide some additional insight into their respective growth levels and key points of interest in their audience data.
Really, at the end of the day, such a comparison is less relevant than working out which platform is resonating most with your target audience, but the insights provided do offer some interesting food for thought.
