There is no substitute for attending conferences but we're getting closer to the next best thing. The days when a reporter would file copy telling us about the key events is still very much alive and well. But it is being enriched by a bunch of new approaches to reporting that directly involves attendees.
In what many predicted would be a consumer-to-enterprise adoption curve, Oracle is using a bunch of new tools for its Oracle OpenWorld gig. Capturing the action where there will be 41,000 people isn't easy but it just got a whole lot more interesting.
Eddie Awad lists the official and unofficial tools which include Kyte.tv, YouTube, Twitter, wiki, Oracle Mix (a social networking tool for Q&A) plus the usual assortment of blogs.
As I said at ZDNet, this is the first time I've seen an array of tools used in this manner. It could well be the first of many such examples. I'm interested to see the value of the output that emerges.
