Facebook has been putting significantly more emphasis on groups of late - and for good reason. Facebook Groups are used by more than a billion people each month - more than Instagram and Snapchat combined - and according to Facebook more than 100 million people are members of what they call "very meaningful" groups.
Groups also received special mention in Facebook's most recent News Feed algorithm update, with News Feed chief Adam Mosseri noting that if brands and publishers want to maximize their exposure potential:
"In Groups, people often interact around public content."
In other words, groups can be great for boosting on-platform engagement - which is exactly what Facebook wants.
