As I continue to look for clients, consultant work and even a full time opportunity, in this 2009 economy, I began to see, that I needed more than just technology, Web content, SEO and Training skills (which is my passion) - I needed something that could showcase all my work experiences -- that I've gain from training, work life and self exploration in the world of technology. I started a goal, instead of telling my perspectives what I did, I would show them.
Ingenious you say? Well, we know that most people like to envision a prospective Web site, or Web tools skills, whether it's SEO, creating your own Blog, Web content, or new media such as Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin or radio or video knowledge. Why not add all these marketing features as leverage, to get potential clients or employers to your site.
So I began to use the tools that I've gained these five plus years -- and instead of using them as my personal social media networks, I added them to my company brand.
Web Content
In the world of web site design, one of the most important elements is great Web content. A great way when starting out in this medium is to showcase your writing ability - you can do this by Blogging on any social media website. I got my start with the Presidential campaign back in 2007 with the Huffington Post, not only did I help voters register to vote and get the message out on why I thought my candidate was the best choice, I conducted interviews, photojournalism projects and Op-Ed articles, that got noticed and published. It's a great way to get your voice heard and your work read on a national scene. There are many sites looking for Blogger, (non-paid and paid). The goal is to get your name out there and showcase your work. It pays off in the end.
Twitter and Facebook your Company
So, you have all your friends on your social networks. But did you create a business one? Add a company group or add your business logo on your page. Having your professional bio image is a great personable start, but they still need to know your brand. If you don't have a logo, get one. Nothing says professional as business cards, a logo and a Web site. Use these on and offline tools, that will get your company noticed, and hopefully more prospects!
Sites that Promote your Brand
I've been trying to find local and national markets to promote my company on the Web. One I use to showcase my professional skills is called Plaxo. I've used Plaxo for years, but now they began to add new social networking features like Connections, Fan Pages, etc. It's a great way to find like-minded members -- that might be interested in your product or service, while keeping your schedule in check with cool calendars, contact and eCards -- you can send to clients for birthdays or anniversaries.
Another site to try is MerchantCircle, it gives you a Web presents (if you don't have one) and showcases clients you have served, even coupons that you can create to get new prospects in the door -- a great local marketing tool to move your company in the right direction -- think Yellow Pages.
Whichever social network medium you use, the goal is to expose your company brand to many types as possible, and perhaps you will meet someone -- that will help move your company forward.
